ADVICE
The first and most important step to be taken is always correct treatment
with an anti-lice product (following the usage recommendations) and a
meticulous combing of the hair with a nit comb.
Lice infection almost always takes place from head to head through skin
contact. Without a “carrier” the lice generally die from malnutrition within
three days. They do not freely abandon the carrier and if they do, they
become immobilized and apathetic. In cases of extreme irritation,
repeat nit combing and rinse thoroughly.
Lice and nits can be seen freely with the eyes. Pay close attention to clothes,
sheets, blankets, stuffed toys and pillows. For your own security, wash clothes,
bed clothes and stuffed toys in the washing machine at 60ºC and dry them in
the dryer. Each member of the family should use their own comb and brush
and clean them regularly.
Other forms of infection other than head to head cannot be ruled out.
However, the majority of studies show that are almost irrelevant.
The other members of the family do not need to be treated if they are not infected.
Adults with lice are almost always parents, teachers, day-care personnel or
teachers of the infected children.
Girls are infected more often than boys. It is believed that the explanation lies
in their behavior, given that girls have a greater and more frequent contact with
each other.
According to a study, 85% of children are infected one time in their lives, regardless
of hygiene, education or social status.
Pets cannot be infected by lice.
